Introduction

In 1912 the Republic of China was formed when Sun Yat-Sen and the Chinese nationalist party, KMT, defeated the last emperor of the Qing dynasty, ending imperial rule in China. During World War 2 the Second Sino-Japanese war left strained ties between the KMT and the communists. These tensions between the communists and the KMT led to a civil war in 1947 with the Chinese Communist Party coming out on top and taking mainland China. They gave the KMT Taiwan and it is now known as the Republic of China.

The Peoples Republic of China was known as the communist or red China during the cold war and was under Mao Zedong’s rule. He was obsessed with rapid growth and would do anything to get China on the same level as the other nations. During the Great Leap Forward, an implication put in by Mao to increase production,  ended up turning China backwards and killing many of its people. Joining the Great Leap Forward in China’s mistakes as it developed was the Hundred Flowers Campaign, The Anti-rightist movement and the Cultural Revolution. These things all stopped China from moving forward in the world. After Mao Deng Xiaoping took power and his reign was also not the best. After Xiaoping there have been many peaceful leaders for the CCP. Now China has the world’s second largest economy and its population id continuously growing. Also the PRC and ROC are trying harder to work together, after the 1970s there has been a lot of improvement made from China and now it is moving forward.
